Mailbag: My boss has an AI subscription but won't let me get one
We have a wonderful reader writing in today to ask for advice on how to deal with his boss who has an AI subscription. This sounds like an interesting situation one of our hundreds of readers have come across:
"Hi Centel,
Wanted to write in to ask for advice on a problem I have been dealing with lately. For context, like all companies our company has a huge AI initiative and using it to be better at work is a top priority. I am but a humble company man so I try my best to use this in my day to day but I find the basic version of copilot to be very limited in what it can help with (although I'll admit it's a little helpful just not $500 Billion helpful in my opinion.)
So what is the problem? Well besides being a humble company man I am also a humble IC. The company has only given out premium seats to copilot to management who has real work but is pretty removed from actual processes.
Again why is this a problem? Because it has made my boss incredibly efficient at asking for updates and admin work that doesn't feel necessary. I also have to read the longest emails ever now. For your many readers I'll provide the context that the extra reports we get we have to dig through random CRM data (a pain) and put numbers into a weird repetitive format and we never hear about it again. Normally when there is new reporting you get told to keep up on it every week.
However, I think this is just my boss trying to feel productive by using his premium AI to power through his email at warp speed to send hallucinated data requests.
So my question is: how do I bring this up to my boss? Thanks"
Wow great question. I'll answer on tomorrow's blog and wait for some readers to write in with an answer.
Have a great night!
